🌟 Cunzhen Ma is the general manager of China Nonferrous Metals Techno-Economic Research Institute Co., Ltd, the chairman of the National Technical Committee for the Standardization of Nonferrous Metals (SAC/TC243), the chairman of the National Technical Committee for the Standardization of Rare Earths (SAC/TC229), and the chairman of the Rare Earths Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC298). By taking the lead or serving as a key member of the group, he participated in more than ten national scientific research projects, such as “Research on International Standards in the field of Nonferrous Metals and Rare Earths.” He has also organized the preparation and revision of more than 100 crucial standards for nonferrous metals. Moreover, as the editor-in-chief, deputy editor-in-chief, or key editorial board member, he has compiled and translated many books, such as Handbook of Designations for Nonferrous Metals Worldwide. For years, he has also won 22 science and technology awards presented by China Nonferrous Metal Industry Association, including 6 first prizes, such as “Research on Standards for New Aluminum Alloy for Automotive Light weighting”, 11 second prizes, such as “Research on the Implementation of Internationalization Strategy of China’s Nonferrous Metal and Rare Earth Standards”, and 5 third prizes, such as “Preparation and Revision for Product Quality Standards for Carbonaceous materials used in aluminium production.”

✨ Scott Whalen is a Chief Scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in Richland, WA. Dr. Whalen’s research team is developing Shear Assisted Processing and Extrusion (ShAPE) to manufacture high-performance metals. His current research areas focus on technology maturation of the ShAPE extrusion process, conversion of aluminum scrap into automotive and construction components, low-carbon manufacturing, and fundamental science to improve performance in a variety of metals. Scott is the lead author on 11 peer reviewed journal articles and co-author on 30+ more. He is also an inventor on 7 granted and 12 pending US patents and received a 2020 R&D 100 Award as the primary innovator of ShAPE. 🍀 🍀

Prior to joining PNNL, Scott was a principal scientist in the Power Source Technologies Group at Sandia National Laboratories. Dr. Whalen holds a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Idaho, MS degree in biomechanics from Texas A&M University, PhD in mechanical engineering from Washington State University, and completed a post-doctoral appointment in thermoelectric energy harvesting at Sandia National Laboratories. 🌱 🌱
