๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ Scott Whalen, chief scientist from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, will attend the European Green Aluminum Summit as a speaker.

๐ŸŒŸ Speech Topic : Shear Assisted Processing and Extrusion (ShAPE) for Reduced Carbon Footprint and Embodied Energy

โœจ Scott Whalen is a Chief Scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in Richland, WA. Dr. Whalenโ€™s research team is developing Shear Assisted Processing and Extrusion (ShAPE) to manufacture high-performance metals. His current research areas focus on technology maturation of the ShAPE extrusion process, conversion of aluminum scrap into automotive and construction components, low-carbon manufacturing, and fundamental science to improve performance in a variety of metals. Scott is the lead author on 11 peer reviewed journal articles and co-author on 30+ more. He is also an inventor on 7 granted and 12 pending US patents and received a 2020 R&D 100 Award as the primary innovator of ShAPE. ๐Ÿ€ ๐Ÿ€

Prior to joining PNNL, Scott was a principal scientist in the Power Source Technologies Group at Sandia National Laboratories. Dr. Whalen holds a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Idaho, MS degree in biomechanics from Texas A&M University, PhD in mechanical engineering from Washington State University, and completed a post-doctoral appointment in thermoelectric energy harvesting at Sandia National Laboratories. ๐ŸŒฑ ๐ŸŒฑ
